Psychiatric Disorders in Husbands of Breast Cancer patients

Backround: The purpose of this study was to evaluatepsychiatric health of husbands of hospitalised cancer patients at General Hospital of Nafplio. Material and Methods: This was an observational study with completion of questionnaire by participants. All husbands of breast cancer patients presenting to Gneral Hospital of Nafplio from February 2023 to March 2024, which included 38 individuals, were included in the study. Questionnaires included questions of demographic information and the SCL-90 were completed by all participants. Correlation between variables was analyzed usig t-tests and chi-square tests. Results: Mean age of participants was 49 +- 5 years. The number of participants with high scores in the disease range were 17% for anxiety, 2% for obessive compulsion and 15% for paranoia.It was noted that 7,1%of the husbands were smokers and 3,8% drug abusers. Conclusion: This study showed that using scl-90 questionnaire husband of breast cancer patients have more psychiatric disorders than seen in the general population.
